Start packing now.

Preparing a house for listing can be time consuming and tiring.  The earlier you start the less stressful it will be for everyone involved. 

Here's a basic list to get you started.

• Purchase the necessary packing supplies.
• Designate one room for storing packed boxes. Clear it out and prepare it first.
• Declutter each room by packing away seasonal items and things that are not used on a weekly basis and label each box with it's contents.
• Hold a garage sale and sell any furniture, decor or household items that are not going with you when you move.
• Reduce the items in your closets, cupboards, and drawers by one third.
• Store or pack personal effects such as photos, collections, personal papers, video games, excess toiletries, refrigerator magnets, nicknacks and that type of thing.
• Paint over your bold walls with a neutral color to give everything a clean fresh look.
• Scrub everything until it sparkles.  This means baseboards, curtain rods, windows, cupboards, light fixtures, appliances, floor tile, doors, handrails.
• Repair or replace anything inside and out that is worn or broken.
• Maximize counter space in kitchen and bathrooms.
• Eliminate all odors from pets, smoking, food, fragrances. 
• Create curb appeal.
